When families are thinking about straightening their teeth, one thing that usually pops into their minds is braces. We at Inner Smiles Orthodontics have spent years helping people get the straight, healthy smiles they deserve with all sorts of different braces. We love seeing just how far those smiles have come after treatment. We have all sorts of braces to suit pretty much any need or taste. And yes, good old-fashioned metal braces are still the most popular, especially among kids and teens. The good news is that modern metal braces are much smaller and way more comfortable than they used to be. And you can even have some fun with them – we’ve had patients choose bands that match their school colors, or go with seasonal colors all year round.

For patients who would rather keep a low profile, we have ceramic braces. These look just like normal brackets, but they blend right in with your teeth so you don’t draw attention to them. They do need a bit more care to keep them looking their best, but they’re a great option for older teens and adults who want to keep their orthodontic treatment private.

Getting your braces put on is a pretty straightforward process. We take the time to explain everything that’s going to happen, then we go ahead and put in the brackets and attach them with a wire. You might feel a bit of minor discomfort for a day or two after, but most people are surprised to find out that it doesn’t actually hurt. We also make sure you know exactly how to care for your new braces and what kinds of food you need to avoid.

We do need to see patients pretty regularly to check on their progress and make any necessary adjustments. Typically that’s every six to eight weeks, to check how the teeth are moving and make any tweaks we need to make to the treatment plan. And the good news is, if you stick to these regular check-ups and follow our care guidelines, you’ll tend to finish your treatment sooner and get even better results. Orthodontics plays a key role in supporting children with cleft lip and palate. We provide orthodontics care that complements surgical and dental treatment plans. Our orthodontics team helps guide jaw growth and tooth alignment for long-term success.

Of course, getting braces does mean making a few changes to your daily routine. It’s a bit more important to keep your teeth clean when you have braces, since food and plaque can easily get stuck. But we show all our patients how to brush and floss properly with their new braces, and we even have special tools that can make cleaning a lot easier.

One of the things that lots of parents worry about is their kids playing sports with braces. But the good news is that you don’t have to stop your kids from doing the things they love. We can make them a custom mouthguard that will keep their teeth and braces safe during contact sports. And as an added bonus, lots of professional athletes have had braces, so it’s clear that it’s not a barrier to performance.

We’re so proud to be a part of so many families’ journey to better oral health, and the Colorado Springs community has really taken to our way of doing things. We’ve even had families come back for multiple generations of treatment – which is a great indication that we’re doing something right. And when we see patients’ confidence grow as their smiles improve, that’s just the icing on the cake. We’ve seen shy kids become way more outgoing, and we’ve seen adults feel way more at ease in their careers once their treatment is over.

Of course, the length of time you’ll need to wear your braces will depend on your individual circumstances. But on average, it’s around two years. We always make sure to give you a realistic idea of how long the treatment will take and keep you updated on how things are going. Teen orthodontics helps guide jaw growth and tooth alignment during crucial developmental years. Our orthodontics for teens includes braces and aligners tailored for active lifestyles. With teen orthodontics, we monitor progress closely to ensure healthy, lasting results.

Many patients choose braces in Colorado Springs to achieve a straighter, healthier smile and we know that getting braces is a big decision for families in Colorado Springs, both financially and personally. So we take the time to answer all your questions and make sure everyone is happy with the treatment plan before we get started.
