Retainers: Replacement & Repair Options
Lost your retainer? Broke it? We can help.
Whether you finished treatment with us or elsewhere, we know how important it is to protect your smile. Retainers keep your teeth from shifting over time—especially right after braces or aligners. If your retainer is lost, cracked, worn out, or just not fitting right anymore, we offer fast, effective solutions to get you back on track.
New retainers are made to fit your smile where it is today. If you’ve had some shifting and want to get your teeth straight again, let us know and we can discuss the options available.
Types of Retainers We Offer
We fabricate retainers in-house or through trusted labs, depending on your needs. Here are the most common types we provide:
Clear Removable Retainers (Essix Style)
These clear, snug-fitting retainers are made from transparent plastic and are ideal for maintaining alignment without drawing attention.
-
Nearly invisible
-
Comfortable and convenient
-
Can be made with a heavier material for clenchers & grinders
Removable Hawley Retainers
A traditional, durable option made of acrylic and stainless steel.
-
Long-lasting and adjustable
-
Want it to match your old one? Bring a photo (or the original) so we can recreate the look as closely as possible
Fixed/Bonded Retainers (Permanent Wire Retainers)
These are thin wires bonded behind the front teeth to hold them in place 24/7.
-
Broken wire? We may be able to repair it in-office—if not, we’ll safely remove and replace it
-
Can be paired with a clear removable retainer for backup
Nightguards for Heavy Grinding
Some patients grind through even the toughest retainer material. If you have a history of bruxism (teeth grinding), we can fabricate a basic nightguard that offers stronger protection while still helping maintain alignment.
-
Designed for durability
-
More comfortable than over-the-counter guards
-
May help reduce tension or wear on teeth and restorations
Insurance Coverage
We know cost matters, and we’ll always discuss your options upfront. However, replacement retainers are often not covered by insurance, especially if the original was provided as part of your treatment.
-
We’ll check your benefits and explain your out-of-pocket costs clearly
-
Flexible payment options are available
-
Discounted pricing may be available for multiple sets or for active patients
